3x30

Thirty is really nothing compared to what this gracious lady turns a few days after me. Can you only imagine how much life experience and wisdom one must possess when you're three times older than what I am. I enjoy listening to the elderly reminisce about their lives with stories from past generations. It makes me feel like I haven't even started my life yet and that there are so many more spiritual, mental and physical challenges and journeys to look forward to in the future. I welcome them all with open arms. I have always lived with the mindset that I will live and enjoy my life like it was my last days on earth and I will continue to do so for also this new decade that I'm stepping into today. Not sure if that type of thinking will bring me all the way to ninety but at least I will have enjoyed an insanely intense and fulfilling ride.

protect yourself

just another day by the beach... feels like I'm on a girls vacation here. loving it. In the end of next week it's time for Alex and me to have another type of vacation far from the boat. One full week on another side of the world. more about that later on...

summer love

I Love Antigua.. who wouldn't?

Pigeon beach

Happy weekend to you all!

the other night

The view alone is worth the hike up that steep hill. Yea I guess we could've taken the golf cart from the resort but for some reason we always manage to make everything as complicated as possible for ourselves. Sweaty and with cramp in our legs (especially me with my high heels) we arrived to the top of the hill but the atmosphere and ambiance of this place totally managed to take our breath away and get us forget the pain, at least for a while.. Carmichaels is, in our humble opinion, one of the best places on Antigua for a romantic and/or stylish dinner where the manager Clifford Hanes, a charming man with much knowledge and discreet professionalism, runs his place in sophisticated manners. Hope we'll get a chance to go again very soon.

daily activities

You might think we spend all our days at the beach but that is unfortunately not correct. This is my standard pose and activity most of the days, up to 12 hours a day in fact depending on how much work Alex got with his carbon constructions for the day. I'm happy if I can sneak out to the beach for a few hours in between work once or twice a week, that's just the way we hang out here. One might meet for a coffee or a drink in a coffee-shop or a bar in the afternoon with friends in a city, we go down to the beach instead. Quite some things to wrap up here again. One of my friends from Dubai clears in to the island tomorrow, haven't seen her in ages so should be fun to catch up on lost time. And if that wasn't enough pleasure already, Alex and me have planned to kidnap three of our island friends on a cruise around the island with our new boat this weekend, seriously looking forward to that one too. Both of us are missing sailing and double fun to share the moments with some really sweet people. Just a few days of work before all that pleasure..

Carmichaels

Our final lunch at Sugar Ridge resort was enjoyed on our favorite restaurant at the property. Carmichaels is a fine dining restaurant at the top of the ridge with a spectacular view over the Caribbean sea. We had already fallen in love with the place the night before when we got to enjoy a candlelit dinner while overlooking the dark sea and the amazing sky of stars above Montserrat and Nevis islands. The food here is very delightful, the service great and they got an excellent attention to details. There's also a beautiful infinity pool where guests can relax and have a cocktail before or after lunch. Definitely a place to recommend for friends visiting Antigua as both the pool and the restaurant are open to outside clients and not only for the guests of the hotel. Will show you some evening shots of the dinner as well but let's look at that view first before I show you the nightside of it all, isn't that just gorgeous?

@ the beach

What do you like my beautiful necklace? My amazing friend Jeanette has designed it and she gave it to me when we met in St Barts for the holidays. I love it very dearly. It is made of thick black leather and heavy silver hardware in clusters.

See here for more beautiful shots from St Barts, one of our favorite places on earth.

Sugar Ridge

What we loved about our stay at the beautiful Sugar Ridge, was the variety of things to see and to do. Sugar Ridge hotel lays in a valley, quite high from sea level and thus have no private beach connected to it like most other resorts or hotels around in the Caribbean. But the location is nonetheless perfect, instead of having only one beach, they got at least six of them with just a five-minutes shuttle ride away. The beaches surrounding this area are some of the most beautiful on the island and if you for some reason would get tired of one, you have many more just a short walk or ride away. Other than beaches and two restaurants at the property (one of which was supreme, I'll tell you more about it a bit later), we had access to two gorgeous pool areas, an Aveda spa (where I had booked a full body massage for Alex that I thought he deserved after his hard work these past months), a stunning view over the Caribbean sea from our room and from most other parts of the property, friendly staff always willing to walk that extra mile for us and an overall peaceful and serene setting which truly did good for our souls after a few hectic months. Sugar Ridge is slightly lower in price than the other large resorts around making this a great value for both couples, newlyweds and singles in every age. It was also recently voted one of the top 25 trendiest hotels in the Caribbean by members of TripAdvisor and yes we must agree: the design and the style of this place is very well thought out and both the interior and the ambiance oozes youth and sexiness all the way through. Thank you Sugar Ridge for having us, can't wait to get back another time.
