lumoava

A while ago I got this gorgeous butterfly set sent to me from one of Finland's most known traditional jewelry maker, Lumoava. The brand has created unique pieces since 1942 and my first introduction to it was when my godfather gave me a confirmation ring from the brand, must've been some fifteen years ago now. Since my beloved godfather Eino passed away a few months before we left on this circumnavigation, I saw Lumoavas contact to me earlier this year as something personal and I am very thankful for both the beautifully well made silver jewelry that I now get to wear and the memories the gifts indirectly reminds me of.

adorn til dusk

When in London, I met with the talented Julia Cameron, the designer behind a gorgeous jewelry line, Adorn til dusk. At the function where we met, I couldn't help but staring at her beautiful headpiece and I eventually made sure to get myself my own. I love the vintage feel of it and how easy it is to add to any type of look. Can only imagine how well it will go with either a long, goddess type of maxi dress, or a dressed down hippie ensemble. As vintage is a passion of hers, you'll also find handpicked vintage bags, belts, sunglasses and shoes in Julia's online store. Check it all out here if you're into that kind of stuff. Or have a look on the Facebook page where all new jewelry are posted. I really love the star and crystal headpieces that are not yet on the website. Here's the link to the gorgeous style that I have btw.

As I probably will get the question like so many times before: "why do I write about and promote fashion brands on a sailing blog?" Well firstly, this isn't probably your typical sailing blog after all, but also as around half of our readers are girls/women and because many of those 50% have followed me since my early blog years, started already in 2005, when I was working in fashion. I think I wouldn't enjoy writing this blog to this extent if I wasn't able to share with you the mixture of all the things that I love, and quite naturally, all those females would probably not follow us around the world if this blog was only about boat maintenance and sailing... gotta keep you all (myself included) satisfied somehow, and it seems to have worked out pretty well thus far, no?

jazz on simpson bay beach

Always having such a great time with our dear Canadian friend Reg Bates. You might remember that Reg owns Weather Eye Yachts, the best yacht broker you can find in the Caribbean. He's been a tremendous help in regards of selling our old boat and buying of our new one, so lucky to have found him. Buying and selling a vessel can often be a very personal, emotional affair and not everyone are as lucky as we've been, to find the right middle man. Bonus of course when your broker also proves to be a crazy, funny and warm person and we've had so much fun with this man ever since we met the first time. Thanks again dear for an amazing day in the sun!

My bikini is from Agua de Coco and Beach Fashion Shop. Earrings from We Dream In Colour.

fruity

You might wonder where my bikini came from in this post. It's a Diane von Furstenberg and was sent to me by the Beach Fashion Shop. I love it. Usually wearing much one colored pieces so this one gives a breath of fresh air to my steady growing collection. My wardrobe is so light these days. Hundreds of bikinis comes nowhere close to the weight of hundreds of high heels. That's great, so Alex can fill the boat with more... tools?

hand made adornments

Just got the most beautiful package from Jade, the designer behind We Dream In Colour. Handmade jewelry with cutting edge design inspired by many cultures and worlds, much of it has a vintage feel which I adore. The line is created in socially conscious fashion and the company takes as many steps they can to minimize their environmental impact. These are the hoops that I wear in the photo btw, I love them, made of vintage African beads. Go check out the website and online shop, they ship all over the world.

Curtain Bluff

The other day we were invited by Managing Director and partner Rob Sherman at Curtain Bluff to have a look at his legendary Antiguan resort. I think most people who've ever searched for a luxury resort in the Caribbean have came across or heard about Curtain Bluff in one way or another. The property was built in 1962 and been a favored island getaway ever since. The resort has an almost mythical reputation around the world so I was thrilled to finally get to visit and it goes without saying that I wasn't disappointed with what we were shown. The resort has a dream location on a bluff in between two beaches. One with wild Atlantic waves and the other one facing the calmer Caribbean sea. The gorgeous classic colonial style buildings are surrounded by a lush green palm garden, a garden with over 70 different types of palm trees from all across the world as Rob told us with excitement. Some of which he himself has planted and seen grow over the years.

Most of the staff at Curtain Bluff have worked with the resort for most of their lives and it's easy to see the reason for it. There is a special vibe in the air and with whomever we met during the day, it felt like they were a part of the place, not just working there, and the smiles and calming ambiance made us instantly feel welcome. We haven't had the chance to stay at the resort overnight as yet nor have we tried out the evening restaurants, but if you'd trust the massive amount of reviews that are to be found online, this place is a first choice vacation spot for the ones that are looking for elegant tranquility and five star service in a gorgeous Caribbean location. Like many time before, Curtain Bluff were recently voted one of the best hotels in the Caribbean by Travel+Leisure magazine and they're consistently ranked among the best hotels worldwide by other publications as well as by guests and members of Tripadvisor. For more info, check out the hotels website here. Personally I'm hoping we'll have the time to revisit the hotel for a wine tasting evening in their impressive wine cellar one of these days before we leave the island.

My dress and bikini are from Babajaan and my sandals from Ancient Greek Sandals.

Pirate wear

I love this beautiful cotton skirt and the silver snake around my arm. Both are from my new favorite island style brand, Jen's pirate booty. Chic, simple, easy to wear and pretty damn stylish too. If we would have been on Ibiza this summer I know for sure what I'd be living in..

a gypsy chic delivery

Just got a very nice little package from Jen and Tim at Jen's pirate booty. Thanks guys for making me look beautiful on my birthday week! Will show you later on what was inside...

the other night

The view alone is worth the hike up that steep hill. Yea I guess we could've taken the golf cart from the resort but for some reason we always manage to make everything as complicated as possible for ourselves. Sweaty and with cramp in our legs (especially me with my high heels) we arrived to the top of the hill but the atmosphere and ambiance of this place totally managed to take our breath away and get us forget the pain, at least for a while.. Carmichaels is, in our humble opinion, one of the best places on Antigua for a romantic and/or stylish dinner where the manager Clifford Hanes, a charming man with much knowledge and discreet professionalism, runs his place in sophisticated manners. Hope we'll get a chance to go again very soon.

@ the beach

What do you like my beautiful necklace? My amazing friend Jeanette has designed it and she gave it to me when we met in St Barts for the holidays. I love it very dearly. It is made of thick black leather and heavy silver hardware in clusters.

See here for more beautiful shots from St Barts, one of our favorite places on earth.

island footwear

I know I know you don't have to tell me, fact is that I too think peoples feet are the most gross thing to see in photos but as I got so many emails from readers who wanted better images of my new sandals, I just  had to give in. Nice sandals eh? Terribly beautiful and very well made handcraft, can only imagine how perfectly the leather will age with time. You can find your pair here. This is the style i have.
