Eggmilk is a great alternative! You can replace the regular butter with coconut butter (preferably organic). I usually make it with a mix of regular butter and coconut butter. Best of all - if you make a batch you can store it in the fridge for a couple of days!
Have you tried coconut milk? Very tasty and good for you!
Anna: Eggmilk could be awesome if it wasn't that I tried to quit eggs from my/our diet as well. Egg and chicken business is as terrible an industry as the milk thing is. If we had our own chickens it would be perfect though but then again, we could then have our own cow or goat for the milk. Thanks though!
Verena: I forgot to mention coconut milk, I love it, but Alex doesn't like the flavor in his coffee unfortunately.
Hemp milk is delicious! In coffee and on its own. And you can still use soy milk with moderation, just dont go crazy with it. look for organic soy milk.
there is also hazelnut milk, rice milk, coconut milk, quinoa milk
And organic and humane or whatever they want to call it is just a different way of marketing dairy and meat and eggs, animals suffer the same...! to produce milk the cow must give birth time after time and have that calf taken from her, these calfs are still waste products (organic or not) and finally there are no retirement homes for these poor cows so they go to slaughter after a few years, organic or not
and please forget about egg milk?? thats not vegan...
We are eating vegan since the beginning of the year (after having been vegetarian for some 20 years). Couldn't feel healthier since. My wife, the nutrionist, says: while living vegan have you Vitamin B (especially B12) and Vitamin D blood levels regularly checked, as well as Homocystein. Hold against that with supplements, for example VEG1 from vegansociety.com. All the best and keep up the good work!
I prefer Almond milk for breakfast cereals, but I do not like it in coffee. I keep organic nonfat cow's milk for my coffee and lattes. Like you, I would like to find an alternative for my coffee. I do not like soy milk. I like rice milk for cereals, but not for coffee.
Maybe I will try coconut milk as Verena mentioned.
I think coconut milk is your best bet , the taste will take some adjusting .

Homemade cashew milk spiced with cinnamon and vanilla.
Ingredients
1 c. raw cashews, soaked for at least 4 hours
3 c. water
2 tbsp. Grade B maple syrup (more if you want it sweeter)
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 vanilla bean, cut and scraped
Instructions
1. Blend all the ingredients together until smooth. With a high-powered blender, you should be able to get the cashew milk completely smooth, but if you don't have one, simply pour the milk through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer before serving.
Notes
To soak cashews, place them in a bowl and cover them with water. Let them sit for 4 hours, then drain and rinse. Cashew milk will keep in the refrigerator for about 2 days. Store it in a bottle and shake before serving
Try This. My daughter LOVES it.....
Hi,
I don't have a milk answer for you, but I follow this blog:
http://theboatgalley.com/
She has galley suggestions that are really helpful. You might find following this blog helpful too.
Hope to see you on the water someday!

Add a bit of Almond into the cows milk each day until Alex is off the cow. Its not easy to go cold turkey when making drastic changes. Its a journey,.. like the one you are on.

Taru,
There are 3 versions of that same milk here in the states. The picture you show... is of the 90 calorie per serving kind, and I agree... it's really sweet.
The 30 calorie version is kind of like eating raw almonds... just sort of bland.
Try to find the 60 calorie per serving variety. It sort of falls in the middle of the other 2 versions and has become for me, a great alternative to milk. Plus, I find it lasts longer on the boat.
Best wishes.
Adam
Oatmilk, it tastes better in the coffee then most other products and Rice milk is not that good for you they've realised and a lot of the other alternatives doesn't go well with coffee for sure.
Maybe you could add a drizzle of agave or maple syrup in your homemade almond milk? Or you could try hazelnut milk, hemp milk, oat milk... Oats might be the taste that goes best with coffee. I love hazelnut milk in my coffee because it makes it taste like Christmas, but it's a personal choice!
Hey sailors..
So we are here in Panama as well and I have done a few trips provisioning over the last month. If you go to a Rey supermarket, def the one in Panama City by Albrook Mall, you can find a good variety of milk alternatives. I have almond milk onboard and I think the brand is pacific but it's organic and not sweetened... They do have a vanilla which is nice but stil not as sweet as "silk".
They also have oat milk and a few others..
Hope that helps and perhaps see you around over the next few months..
Ciao Sophie
This was my story from a few weeks ago.
I use straining bag from here. This is great for coffee. Depending on the almond nut source there is actually very little almond flavour. The best ones I ever had were Italian organic almonds which had a faint amaretto flavour.
Havremjölk! Finns att köpas här i Norden, men kanske inte "worldwide". Har för mig att man kan göra själv, men vet inte hur.
Hi guys,
Aside from lifestyle changes, in your sailors opinion, would Panama or Columbia be good places to find "bargain" (for a lack of a better word) boats?
My wife and I are looking for a 40 ft. (ketch rig would be fantastic), I'm a handy guy and I have time on my hands right now.
My Spanish is reasonable, however we don't have much experience dealing with boatyards and such in South America.
Cheers and fair winds!
Ben
Taking notes.
- Almond milk less sweetened without vanilla, get in Rey's super market by Albrook, thanks Sophie!
- Almond milk homemade
- Hemp milk (gotta locate hemp seeds, hoping to find them here)
- Cashew milk homemade
- Oat milk homemade
- Hazelnut milk (sounds delicious!)
Super Taru that your blog becomes a more ethical one towords the other beings that people use as resources, even though we have so many options and we do not actually *need* to.

I am the one that was saying a year ago to leave the fish alone, live and let live, I have been a vegan for 9 years.
I like your images that you take with the goats for example and the other species, but it breaks my heart when I know what they are used for, and how it will end for them.
Go vegan, it is the right thing to do. If animals matter for us, we cannot justify using them in any way.
If we want to change things in this world, we need a paradigm shift, as Prof. Gary Francione says, one that will change the way we see the non-human animals.
As long as we see them as mere things, as resources, nothing will ever change.
As sentient beings, animals should have at least one right: to not be treated as property.

I love almond milk in my coffee - it was an acquired taste though. It is easy to find unsweetened organic almond milk here in California, but making it at home is fairly simple too. You also avoid a lot of additives/thickeners that are commonly found in store bought almond milk. Here is a link to an easy how-to. You get almond meal left over in the process, which is handy if you decide to experiment with gluten free baking.

Wow what great suggestions from readers!!! I'm taking notes too.
As an update-
I tried the hazelnut milk in my coffee, and it was really nice. I much prefer it to almond milk in coffee.
I still prefer vanilla almond milk with cereals.
