finding silence in the noise

A while ago I answered some questions for the new meditation website called Whil. A site founded by the inspiring power couple Chip and Shannon Wilson who also founded Vancouver based, yoga inspired apparel brand Lululemon Athletica - before yoga got mainstream some sixteen years ago.

Whil.com strives for bringing consciousness to society by sharing thoughts and ideas on how to slow down a hectic lifestyle. How to look deeper within. It advices on how to regain a sense of connectedness. We all know how easy it is to lose touch with the self when surrounded by all what our modern world distracts us with.

Head over and see what I had to say about meditation and how I have made it my mental escape in the chaos of society and life in general. And don't miss to read through the rest of the site, tons of inspiring material in there.

interview

Graphic designer Audrey Victoria Kawarmala has a lovely looking design/lifestyle blog that I've known and regularly checked in on for a couple years now. Audrey recently asked us a few questions about our journey, travel experiences and future plans for her site…. you can find answers to all of that and more over here!

on beauty

Blogs, Instagram and other social mediums are brilliant in the way that you can get to know a variety of interesting people from all over the world. The Internet allows you to easily find and follow your favorites and gain inspiration within any given area, just a quick click away. Rachel K. Ward is one such lovely woman that I've followed through her blog, in which she often shares interesting perspectives on everything in between fashion, travels and culture. Rachel, who is a journalist and consultant in the fashion industry, recently asked me a few questions about beauty for her blog series beautiful women, you can read my answers here.

Obrigado Portugal!

We are very thankful for all our new Portuguese readers that we've received for our little blog as of late. Much thanks to Noticías Magazine a few weeks ago, as well as one of the largest (celebrity) magazines Caras, who recently included a story about us in its magazine as well as in the online version.

And while we're at it, here are a few other Portuguese websites and blogs that have written about us just recently.

Press Sunday

There's been quite some press for our little blog lately and sometimes I forget to mention it here on the blog. This is another fine piece by our friends over at Uncommon Caribbean who this time wrote about our stay in St Barts a couple months back. Read the whole article from Uncommon Caribbean here.

It's always very interesting to read these articles from all around the globe about us and our journey. What exactly is it that we have created? The couple who live the dream, the sexy sailors, a life of freedom .. lol, if only you knew how much work there is behind this dolce vita of ours!

It's a balancing act to maintain a sense of mental freedom and live the simple life we've chosen, while at the same time nurture our online presence, this blog and the work around the boat. Sometimes I play with the thought of quitting the blog altogether to see how it really would feel to be free from that sort of work - writing and photographing that is, but I think I'd miss sharing what we encounter and also you guys very much. And compared to other job we have to deal with around here, the blog isn't such a big deal in the end.

And here's yet another article written by the German SegelReporter.

About freedom

In collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger

How we've been waiting to share these wonderful news with you all, and finally it's official! The all American brand, Tommy Hilfiger, has appointed Alex and me to be their global brand ambassadors, for Hilfiger's new fragrance that have just been launched worldwide. The fragrance is called Freedom, and while searching for someone who could embody the particular message and word, Freedom, they've chosen us. This is something that we are tremendously proud and thankful for and we still have a little hard to believe it's actually true!

Here's what it's saying in the press release that is sent out to the industry today:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

The Tommy Hilfiger Group, which is wholly owned by PVH Corp. is proud to announce the launch of Freedom Tommy Hilfiger, a new fragrance for men. To promote the fragrance, Tommy Hilfiger has joined with Alex and Taru, experienced global sailors and couple, as they embark on “The Freedom Tour,” a six month ocean journey around the world.

“I have always been inspired by the nautical life, and I have great admiration for those who embrace it. It’s rare to have the courage to, literally and figuratively, set sail and live your dream,” said Tommy Hilfiger.

In tandem with the launch of the new Tommy Hilfiger men’s fragrance, “The Freedom Tour” will depart from Tommy Hilfiger’s favorite Caribbean island, Mustique. The couple will then sail to Colombia, the San Blas Islands, Panama and eventually through the South Pacific Ocean. They will chronicle their journey on the Tommy Hilfiger Facebook page, so fans can experience their adventures and travels.

Alex and Taru met three years ago in Barcelona, Spain. After knowing each other for only a few weeks, they decided to take the ultimate adventure: they sold their personal belongings, emptied their savings accounts and set out to sail around the world. “We wanted to free ourselves from the stress and obligations of our day-to-day life,” says Alex. “We decided to sail the world at our own pace, traveling from one inspiring place to another.”

In two years, the couple has travelled more than 12,000 nautical miles, visiting thirteen different countries on three continents.... Join Alex and Taru on their upcoming journey and follow the inspiring Tommy Hilfiger “Freedom Tour” on Facebook: www.facebook.com/tommyhilfiger.

About Tommy Hilfiger Freedom fragrance for Men: Created for the man who lives life big, and dreams even bigger, Freedom Tommy Hilfiger epitomizes the charisma and captivating confidence of a man – managing business at the office or commandeering a boat on the open ocean. The man who wears Freedom Tommy Hilfiger is the consummate gentleman with a rebellious spirit. He doesn’t forecast the future, he creates it. He thrives on spontaneity and takes inspiration from the beauty of nature that surrounds him.

More coming

Glad you seem to like the video! Yesterday we had around 10.000 views on it (in one day!) from almost every country in the world. We're slowly reaching for 20k and we have only had it open for the public for five days thus far. Thanks to Sailing Anarchy, All at Sea, Sailing World, ItBoatSegel Reporter, Nalden and all of the private blogs and tumblr sites that have spread this first video around. So glad we got into this, looking forward to see what you think about the second episode which will be online shortly. Have a look here or below if you still haven't seen our first episode.

A better person

What is it that brings people to sail the waters of our world more than freedom, independence and peace of mind like I was taking about yesterday? Vistas like this of course. It must do something good for your brain and your heart to wake up to a view like this instead of rain and clutter which is the case in many parts of the world. I can even go that far to claim that a view like this is what have made me a better person, just because I need less of everything else so to say. I can jump off our boat any second and enjoy the luke warm water, maybe have a turtle swimming by and all along the way get warmed by the healing sunshine. In moments like that there isn't much else you would want to wish for yourself. You feel kind of content with what there is, right there right now.

P.S: Don't forget to check in a bit later, will share with you our favorite sites of the month.

P.S 2: And do not miss to check out what the worlds greatest/largest/most famous sailing website, Sailing Anarchy, has to say about our little video today, find it here. Thank you for featuring us yet again.

Portuguese article

This World Tour Blog serves several purposes for me, partly it is a diary in which I collect memories, photos and thoughts from these years on the sea for the future. Second to that, it is my job and my way of connecting with clients and partners as a freelance writer-blogger-photographer-online entrepreneur or whatever that I am today. And one additional reason to why this blog is up and running and why I spend so much time on perfecting it and posting on it, is because I love the thought of giving a piece of this journey to others, and being able to share my thoughts through my writings and the images captured through my lens are what probably drives me most of it all. So when I get to read all the praise from all across the globe on the world wide web, for not only the journey itself which I understand must be quite inspiring, but also for the content of this blog, the photography and for my writings, that is a triple pleasure to me. This blog is my baby, probably the greatest extension of myself as I share from my mind, our life, my thoughts and my self on so many different levels so it is always amazing to get to read articles like the one that I found out about today.

Muito obrigado Ana and Trendalert for mentioning our journey on your beautiful website!

My article on Jetsetter.com

Do you remember our fantastic weekend at Buccament Bay Resort? I do, it was one of those weekends you look back at and wish you could repeat. It was simply a couple of extraordinary days spent, just the two of us, in peace and relaxiation. Now, I was recently asked to share my experience of this resort with the members of Jetsetter.com, one of the worlds largest hotel and vacation booking sites for sophisticated travelers. Jetsetter is a private online community dedicated to providing members with insider access to the places they want to go at prices unavailable to the general public. If you are a frequent traveler and interested in those special gems, fabulous boutique hotels or private condominiums for your vacation, I would suggest you to become a member as that will give you first hand access to great deals on bookings world wide. Currently they have irresistible deals on Buccament Bay, Hyatt 48LEX New York, the extraordinary Capella Pedregal in Mexicoa holiday in Machu Pichu Peru and a cruise in Galapagos to name only a few of the deals of the week.

My review of our stay at Buccament Bay resort can be found here, but I think it is only accessible for members so make sure to register to be able to take part of the valuable info within the site. Here's their Facebook page as well that I also would like to suggest you to 'like'.

P.S: Have you btw had the time to pick up your copy of the latest Yachting World yet which features our story about the best of the Caribbean? Go ahead and 'like' Yachting World on their Facebook site too, if you wish to take part of their latest news. Thank you all for your response regarding the article, that means a lot to us.

And that should be it for the self promoting today...

Our Caribbean guide in Yachting World

Do not miss to pick up your own copy of Yachting World in the stand at your local magazine shop today or later this week. The issue features our six page article with all of our Caribbean favorites when it comes to restaurants, beaches, anchorages, bars etc. Do not miss if you will ever be traveling in the Caribbean!

The issue should be out today or later this week in most countries around the world, but probably not before next week in the Caribbean. It has been an honor for us to be asked to write a piece for this magazine, the worlds oldest and one of the most read sailing publications in the world. Please read our story and let us know what you think!

Here's the link to buy it for your iPad if you can't get a hold on the glossy paper magazine (should be available in any proper magazine shop in the world though).

It's all about love

Check out what Taylor at TGood has to say about us and our travels on his stylish lifestyle mag.

One favorite lifestyle blog writes about The World Tour

Go check out what Nalden has to say about our world tour. Nalden.net is one of the coolest lifestyle magazines online, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands - and the website is truly amazing.

That ass of mine have by the way been traveling quite frequently around the world wide web these past six months since it first was published back in January when we crossed the Atlantic ocean. I wonder how many extra sails North Sails have sold because of that photo. We must agree on that it was quite a successful product placement? Without even intentionally being one.
