As a child in the 1960's I lived in the Azores, although I wasn't born there. I used to see fast motor launches towing whaling boats out to kill sperm whales when they'd be sighted. It could be argued it was a fairer way of doing it than having whaling ships firing barbed missiles as we still see today. I hated everything about it and would be shocked at the sight of these beautiful creatures being landed at the factory. Thankfully it's all a thing of the past there now and has been replaced by whale watching as part of the tourist industry. These are great photos of beautiful majestic animals. Shame on countries that perserve in hunting them for "scientific research".
Amazing animals indeed...I swam with them in Dominican Republic 3 years ago...magical and almost devine feeling. Congrats for having this wonderful encounter with the mother and the calf (:
