I like bananas. They are funny.
I like to look for the origins of the fruits in grocery stores here up north. Much come from South Africa and Latin America. It is amazing that it pays to ship blueberries from Chile autumn to the spring in Scandinavia!
"The name banana derives from the Arab banan, or finger. Arab traders were responsible for introducing the plant to Africa, while it was the Portuguese who took bananas to the Caribbean and Latin America."

It is surprising that banana is an endangered species: there used to be "Gran Michel", which vanished due to Panama disease. Bananas nowadays are aalmost all "Cavendish".

Thanks for that info Tytti. I had no clue the bananas (and the name!) were originally introduced by the Arabs, I thought the bananas been around here forever. Interesting.
