I love this post. Two weeks ago today, my mom passed away. She was only 54.
When I told her that me and my love were going to sell our house and nearly all of our belongings to move onto a boat so we could travel like gypsies, she said, "that is what you were meant to do - I just know it."
Unfortunately, she became very sick with lupus, a dreadful disease, and was hardly able to leave the house. Her body was ravaged but her spirit was untouched. She always told me that by me living my dream, it allowed her to live hers.
I am heartbroken that she's no longer here, but she gave me the best gift and that is her sense of adventure and her positive and loving spirit. Life is too short to spend it feeding negative energy such as hate, jealousy, bitterness, or remorse. Love, happiness, gratitude for the simple things - that is what life is about.
Although I'll have some dreadfully sad days ahead, I know she would much rather me continue on with this adventure of ours, and she would want me to laugh and soak it all up, because that's what matters, and I can't wait to live my dream, not only for me, but for her as well.
I apologize for the long comment but this post resonated with me in a big way. Your blog is not just a blog - to me it's a reminder that our time here is precious, so we should all find something we love and go after it.
"Life is what you make it, so why not make it awesome?"
Cheers and safe travels to you and Alex!
I am so sorry for your tremendous loss Melody. That's the sad part of life, that we have to get used to the fact that the ones that we love will not always be among us. Inevitable, yet still so hard to get used to. Despite the pain you feel right now, you will forever carry with you a warm and positive feeling when thinking of her and all what she meant and mean to you, and that comforting feeling will be a good close friend of yours for the rest of your life. At least that's how I carry the ones that I loved and lost, in my heart. Though we must allow space and time for grieving, we can always choose to see things from the positive side of life and make the best out of what we have. Safe travels to you too.
Such a powerful post, thanks for the reminder!
