If you use non-stainless steel hooks they can be left in place after cutting the line. They will corrode in sea water after a short period and fall out. Avoid stainless hooks when possible. I have seen many pierced Barracudas sporting some nice bling as a result of them.
Glad you ate it and its life was not wasted. Mako sharks are actually quite a delicacy if you ever catch one.
Good advice thanks. We were also concerned about the big plastic lure that the shark had already swallowed. Not sure how healthy that would have been to the fish.
shark is surprisingly good fried. In Trinidad, it's one of our favourite delicacies - fried shark meat, in a fried dough that we call "bake" (so we call it bake and shark) - adorned with condiments like pineapple, spiced mango salsa, or basic salad accoutrements - DELICIOUS.
There's no way I could eat that, you're very brave!
Sounds nice Veesha, should try the fried and baked version next time.
If you do get to Tinidad Tobago the Maracas Beach Bake and Shark is the place from what I hear to try it.
