morning rituals and daily duties

Thanks for all your nice comments both on the blog and our Facebook. It feels pretty awesome to have decided to stick around here a little longer and see where our work and ideas can take us. It's a whole new chapter and a very exciting one for many different reasons. Our main purpose with "sailing the world" was indeed to find nice and fulfilling places to stay, for a short time or for a longer before we head towards a new adventure, and it seems this stop in the US will have to be considered one of the longer ones for now.

Since work is and will be our main occupation during this prolonged US chapter, I find it more important than ever to find peace and balance from within. I am the sort of person that can spend 20 of the days 24 hours on a project if I only love and feel for it from the bottom of my heart, so I need to balance out the number of hours spent on working, with something that keeps me grounded. I have a lot of great intentions, but I also know that I can easily get caught up in things, on the border of becoming obsessive. While working hard and pushing boundaries is a good thing, it is never healthy to let anything consume you wholly. It's always good to back off, recharge and come back with objective eyes and a quiet mind. Daily yoga helps so much with that part.

So what's even better with the amazing kitchen space that I work from, is that above it is an unoccupied loft office space, and which we have sort of transformed into a private little yoga studio. I normally arrive around 9 am and start my mornings with 45 minutes yoga and meditation up there, and finish the evening with a longer session. The video shows some of what I worked on this morning. Core strength and balance.

This might seem silly, but below is a schedule which demonstrates pretty much how I have planned my days for the moment. I have made this one just to be sure that I get done all what I want to have accomplished in a day.
The small image of me in the right corner is a clip from a video I'm working on finishing.

Being in the start up process and very much in the experimental stage of things, I try to limit waste of time in each day. I know how social media and other news sites tend to drag you in, and how easy it is to get disoriented if anything random pops up out of the blue, but once you've firmly decided how more or less you want your days to proceed and when you've learnt to keep and promote that idea in your subconscious, it's easier to stick to what you are supposed to be doing. Besides obviously being very determined as to what I look to achieve, I find writing plans and notes for myself very useful. Might be a female thing, what do you think?

That's roughly how most of my weekdays look like right now. Weekends Alex and I try to head out with the bike or do something other than work. Good thing with being freelancers or working on your own projects, is that you can switch days and hours as you please. But even so, I find having an overall knowledge of what you want and where you wish to be heading is a good strategy for every aspect in life. Lessens amount of time wasted and you'll steadily transport yourself towards your goals.
This is a great toast I made today (besides a pretty awesome carrot/ginger soup and the eleventh version of brownie of the last few days). It's home made olive tapenade with capers, parsley, zesty lemon juice, sea salt and olive oil on a thinly sliced and toasted (home made) whole-wheat bread with a filet of avocado and garden fresh heirloom tomato… approved by 4 of 4 people in the kitchen :)

Do you also write lists and practice yoga or how do you keep yourself focused?

9 days at sea

I know you all like videos so here's a new one. This was our recent sailing passage from St Andrés to Florida. The trip started out fairly intense with 20-25 knots of wind and 8-10 foot seas. On the second day, the wind died out and sea remained still for four long days. Of course, we run out of diesel and despite our efforts of making use of the whole sail wardrobe, we didn't accomplish more than perhaps 50 n miles per day during those four calm days. On the fifth day the wind picked up again and unfortunately I don't have the action recorded anywhere except in my mind, but there were heavy and very active thunder storms surrounding us for the final three days before we arrived in the US. A tanker a mile away from us got hit by the lightning and we thank our lucky stars that it was there right in that time, otherwise we would have probably been struck and I doubt our boat would have handled it as well as the cargo did.

Also very glad for all the animal company we had the pleasure to experience during this sail, the dolphins, the minke whales (I think it was minke whales?), the boobie bird resting for the night on our solar panels and the massive amount of flying fish finding their way to deck. It was an interesting experience diving into the water of 5000 meter depth, in the middle of the calm Caribbean sea. Because of the strong currents of the gulf stream, the boat was still moving forward at 1,2 knots and made it almost impossible for me to swim back to the ladder... good exercise indeed!

The last 300 miles went fast as we caught the strongest part of the gulf stream and could rapidly push forward, clocking 240 n miles in the final 24 hours.

Let me know what you like the video. Having many ideas in my mind for the future, so as long as you like them I'll continue producing more.

2 days in San Andrés

We're soon off, continuing our sail towards Florida. But I thought you might want to see our latest video in the meanwhile... I hope you like it. Yea so we did end up here by accident, and what a great coincidence that this island happened to be such a nice place then. Our nine days here were literally spent chilling out y nada mas. No boat projects, no rush. Just resting, eating, hanging out, meeting some nice island people and awaiting better winds - as you can see in the video, which was filmed during two of those lazy windy days. But now it's time to get out on the sea again, new horizons are awaiting...

Yes I know my voice is washed out by the wind there by the beach. Better luck next time.

Beach Jewel Swimwear

Here's a short video of me that Alex and I did for Beach Jewel Swimwear a while back. Check out their new pieces that have just arrived from Brazil on their Facebook page. The website is currently under construction but the bikinis should be available to buy on there shortly. I hope you like the video!

Video shot on Simpson Bay Beach Sint Maarten.

Blue water

Just a short shaky GoPro Hero 2 video we made the other day.

Introduction

For you who follow our friend Nalden's, stylish design blog, you might have seen this already but here's for the rest of you: the first short episode of our World Tour Stories « the short film series ».

Along the way of our travels these past 1,5 years, so many of you dear readers have emailed us, commented and encouraged us to make more videos to give another dimension to this blog, but for some reason we've shied away from making something real of it until now. Only a few weeks ago we figured it's about time to begin to show you how our world looks like in motion picture. I hope you will enjoy this first one of a series of many short films that will follow. The premiere video is just a blurry black and white introduction, the next longer episode with a bit more substance and a colorful look into some of the different cultures we've met on our travels, will go live in approximately a month from now. Or sooner if you really enjoy this one.. Thanks for watching and for joining our journey. Feel free to share the video with your friends or anyone who might be interested in our story. And please let us know how you like this first episode, thanks!

A short one

I'm saying good night tonight with a tiny little video from St Barts..

While we're having our beauty sleep in our mega-large bed on our new boat, maybe you could tell us what type of videos you wish to see more of in this blog of ours? I have understood from many that videos are what you want so before I even get there I'd like to know what type you'd prefer. Boat stuff? Cultural episodes? Beach tour? Sailing? Talk to me.

nogreaterlove

Got sick and tired of my blonde/orange hair the other day. Feels good to be back to dark again.

no sailing today thank you very much

Think I'll stay in bed for the rest of the day.

Suits me most perfectly after a late bar night last night with our lovely new friends.

One night in St Lucia

We're glad that we have had the chance to revisit St Lucia at various occasions while waiting for deliveries etc as that island has much more of cultural entertainment and a somewhat warmer evening ambiance to boast with than Martinique. Martinique might be interesting for several other reasons but for getting in touch with the local culture, devouring in musical experiences and to reach the core of the identity of a state, St Lucia has shown to be much more fulfilling. Here's two short clips from one of those nights in St Lucia. Amazing drummer, that old man, isn't he? /T

Just some snorkeling

Por fin! One short video up at least. We found one shitty underwater camera here and that one will have to serve us until we get a hold on something more proper. Very low quality here now guys so unfortunately it is not obvious on the video how clear and beautiful the water is IRL. Also I had to cut out fishes and other nice stuff so that I could get up something at least as of the slow connection. Or maybe you'd rather see fishes than us. Ha! Next time.

Dolphins

Tried to put this one up on our channel on Youtube but the quality sucks (even more) once uploaded over there. I can't seem to understand why I cannot get the video uploaded online in as good quality as it is in my computer. Any video experts here who can help me with this?

Once again I'm sorry for my shaky filming, definitely have to work on getting more stabile with the camera. Can't blame the wine this time. /T

A good day of sailing

Here's how we approached Gibraltar yesterday. Good speed and great conditions all the way through. This is how we like it. Enjoy our (wet) little ride.

A super calm day aboard s/v Caos

Not much action on the sea lately, but this is how it can look like - on one of the most quiet days on water. This video pretty much sums up the feeling and tempo of our life at the moment. Slow and easy, no stress and hurries. Just going with the flow, taking the days as they come, sailing shorter legs, working on some projects here and there and mentally preparing for the big adventure we are having in front of us. Which will be starting for real once all installations are done and we have gotten out of the Mediterranean. /T

The beginning

So many people have been asking us to upload videos. Here's a little thing I made today.. As soon as we'll be leaving Barcelona and finally getting out on the sea again, there will be more time to produce and upload longer videos. Looking forward to it.. /Taru
