"The sea teaches you not how much you need to be happy, but how little."
Alex is already content because he has YOU, and a beautiful new boat to sail the world. Really, what more could a man ask, or even wish, for?
You can make great coffee on a boat. Buy some 250g bricks of your favourite brand, a Bodum plunger, some UHT milk and off you go.
If he likes cappucino then I can't help.
For my last voyage I bought 20 bricks of Lavazza Crema e Gusto. YUM !
I think you will survive ;-)
What is the max leg at sea? 3 weeks? Just consider it a vacation or camping or roughing it until the next port.
Do you know about young Laura Dekker the little 14 y/o Dutch girl solo-ing also around the world?
She's also awaiting clearence of the hurricane season to make a push across the Atlantic, currently in the Canaries waiting for the green light. Seems on track with your schedule with your departure in 4 days.
I'm thinking your paths may cross as you both (and I am sure many others) set out across the Atlantic.
Maybe ping her as you get closer to the Canaries if she is still there, maybe even convoy across at the same time.

Thinking of your upcoming trip reminds me of this quote:
"It costs so much to be a full human being .... One has to abandon altogether the search for security, and reach out to the risk of living with both arms. One has to embrace the world like a lover, and yet demand no easy return of love. One has to accept pain as a condition of existence. One has to court doubt and darkness as the cost of knowing. One needs a will stubborn in conflict, but apt always to total acceptance of every consequence of living and dying."

Fair winds ... and be safe.
Awesome comments! As a couple we spent 2 years cruising in the South Pacific with very little internet and we are of teh digital connected age also. we found we weaned ourselves off the internet ok and relied on good old games like chess, cards and just getting out there and doing fun stuff like surfing and fishing. As far as music goes we had a couple of 2TB drives and managed to fit a lot of music on them to stream on the boat and that worked out well for us. When it comes to the cruising life, we were in our 30's also and found a lot of the other boats were older type people. However we found a lot of people our age out there who enjoyed the party lifestyle! Hey go with the flow and see what happens and have no definite plans as cool options come up all the time when you are curising so be prepared to change your plans and take opportunities. Good luck and I enjoy your blog and thoughts!
Beautiful words by Morris West.
I will be fine without the Internet. no problem. There is so much other things to do in the world, on a boat - that I will not need it in the end. It's just a question of time to get that habit erased from my system.
3 days to go, I can feel the excitement for you ! Are we on track for this departure date? Did the books arrive? How did the communications installation go? How about an update on the boat and preperations with some pics ! What a life-changing adventure to begin. Very very exciting.
We're more or less on track.. still 35478 projects to complete, but at least we have the most important things ready so we'll be able to leave on Sunday.
Wow, my list could not be more different, even though we're in the same age group. When husband and I are out sailing the only things I really miss are my washing and drying machines. The rest I can soooo live without, computer included. Guess we would not be able to read your blog had you not brought (bring) yours along, så takk for det!
