I agree. They are uggly but so good. We love them. Luc & Nicole
I have a question for Alex. I was reading your earlier post on your philosophy about the trip. You mentioned a story about being at a party and having him whisper into your ear to "get him out of this zoo". My question to him is how do you not become bitter and angry when you are surrounded by fake and selfishness that is everywhere in our society? It has been my experience that the "Real" people are few and far between. As each year passes I become more and more bitter. My main relief from it is sailing because you have to be real when you sail. A boat never lies. I hope you understand what I am trying to say to you. I am really enjoying your blog. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, they intrigue and ensnarl me.
pamplemousse is the same as grapefruit, right?
Pamplemousse=Grapefruit yes.
Luc and Nicole= Without your advice we would probably not even dare to try them. Thanks, they're lovely.
Anonymous: Personally I dont think bitterness is solving any problems. that will just leave you at the bottom but i understand you it is easy to become cynical and bitter in this selfish world. A good tactic which works for me is to avoid situations and people which makes you feel things you do not like. to the extent it is possible of course. sailing is a good "escape" and most real. Also you should only surround yourself with the very few who sees the world with similar eyes that yourself and completely exclude the rest. /alex
Thanks Alex, you understood exactly what my poor ramblings were trying to convey. I appreciate your insight, wisdom and taking the time to ponder my ramblings.
Is this your first grapefruit? Ever? The way I am reading things it seems so, or you mean grapefruit on Martinique? It originates in Barbados, quick checking no producers in Europe. Is it rare in Europe? It's pretty much available like oranges everywhere else. Healthiest breakfast one can have. If too sour you can even sprinkle some sugar on it. You eat it out of the half skin directly like that. If it is new and novel, try grapefruit juice, even better. If proper hits the jowls nicely.
Of course not the first ever. We get plenty of grapefruits imported to europe and they are very popular for breakfast and in salads but they are definitely not as juicy and flavorful as the ones found here. We would probably not have tried them as of their ugly appearance if we did not get that advice.
This is how the grapefruits normally look and how we eat them in Europe:
