There is a certain liberating feeling when you dont have access to news updates..It makes it much easier to just live in the moment.
Dear Taru,
I´ve been meaning to write you for quite some time now. I´m a loyal follower of your blog because I believe deeply that you are really good at 2 things: One, you take very good and arty pictures from the places you visit and these become a good reference for ideas for future travels. Secondly, you are damn sexy and do and excellent job of selling yourself because at the end, this is what you do through this blog, sell something so your sponsors pay for some of the expenses of your trip, and that is just simple genius.
Now, I don´t quite like how you see yourself as an enlightened person for living a “simple” life faraway from your past material life and away from us. I really don´t get the feeling that you have broken from your that, from the needs of having and showing what you have and who you are with. It is very obvious through your great pictures that you are still attached to material world even when you live on a boat. One thing does not take away the other.
I would be really happy for you if through this experience you are finding out what is really important in life. But remember that you don´t have to get on a sailboat and travel around the world do to that, you can do that also living in “our” world. And that is the beauty of it all…you can be truly happy and in peace with yourself at any latitude of this world if you finally have pealed all the layers and have found your heart.
All the best!
Ro
Thank you, I appreciate your comment.
I get a slight feeling of that you might have been offended in some way, because you maybe have thought that I proclaim that it is "to sail around the world far from everything" that is the Only way to go to find happiness. Am I right? In that case I'd like to inform you that it has never been my intention. I am absolutely sure that you can find your inner peace and harmony by living wherever that makes You happy, as long as you are able and capable of cutting the crap and clutter that is normally so active around us in a modern society. And as long as you follow your Own heart and not letting yourself become a copy of someone else or what society expects from you.
If you have found your way to spiritual peace and fulfillment, I am very happy for you. I have found my way, but that is only right for me, maybe not for you nor for others. What I write about in this blog is about my experiences, not yours nor other peoples. Quite naturally this blog will be angled from my personal perspective.
Please do not feel that I think people are wrong or stupid if they don't do as I do. We all have our different times, places, ways to discover the truth of life and ourselves. I honestly do not think that sailing is the way to go for most of us. It is a very demanding, rough lifestyle, yet I have found a sort of happiness and meaningfulness through it. But again, that's only My way.
It is pretty hard to write a blog and be totally objective and think from every different perspective at all times. There will always be room for misunderstandings.
Concerning the material world that you mention, I don't think that I have ever claimed to be totally free from materialism? I have drastically cut down yes and feel good with that, but will always love the beauty of certain things and there is always a need for somethings more than others. Otherwise why would I wear €200 bikinis or use a Macbook Pro for work? As long as one has a distance to the "things" that are part of our lives, I think you should be alright.
Taru writes:(from an American/CNN perspective) as well as news updates from the republican nomination (how boring).
Where do you think your Pro Mac Book that you so covet was invented? Or your Burger King ice cream you enjoyed? Our political choices are the reason our less than 300 year old country draws millions of people from around the world come to live in it; because dreams are made and realized here. Perhaps when you do more traveling to countries and places like Dominica or Haiti you can use your French and volunteer your time and have a greater value on freedom and choices maybe you will understand our boring elections in the USA.

Ro: Another thing I like to straighten out as there is a misunderstanding from your side:
You say: "because at the end, this is what you do through this blog, sell something so your sponsors pay for some of the expenses of your trip, and that is just simple genius."
Which means that you are aware that I run this blog as a business, right?
But then you turn around and say the following:
"Now, I don´t quite like how you see yourself as an enlightened person for living a “simple” life faraway from your past material life and away from us. I really don´t get the feeling that you have broken from your that, from the needs of having and showing what you have and who you are with. It is very obvious through your great pictures that you are still attached to material world even when you live on a boat. One thing does not take away the other."
It seems as you might know the truth, but you still don't want to face it.
This blog is not here for me to show off. I have much better and more interesting things to do in my life. This blog is here, because I have created a business around this journey, simply because I need to make money. I do not have unlimited savings. I do wish to continue to travel indefinitely. I have simply found my way to generate income. Be it with sometimes sexy shots, sometimes product collaborations or whatever it might be, fact is: This is my job.
If this blog wouldn't bring me cash, I wouldn't be doing it to this extent.
I do not buy, invest or sacrifice neither money nor time in this blog for the sole purpose of "showing off what I have or who I'm with" as you put it. I rather spend less, I work very hard and I try to make money in the process. It really is that simple. My business idea is pretty clear and straightforward, and I am thankful every day of my life that I am able to create my work around my hobby/interest/passion, which is to travel, sail around the world and share my art.
LB: I do very well understand your elections and politics in the US. But as it is a big bunch of hypocrisy (as in most other societies around the world), I rather not listen to it too much. I am well traveled and well informed, but I have a choice to divert my interest towards the things that I think are more pure, and right for me.
Also, I never said America is a bad place, I never said I do not love my American friends or products. I simply declared that the politics doesn't interest me too much.
I like to look at Taru and dont care much what her politics are...
I also get the not watching the TV as much... it detoxes you not watching TV or listening to the rhetoric on both sides.
As a republican, who votes, I also found the conventions boring...
Taru, keep on blogging, making money, and enjoying the capitalistic way of making money, that is what made my country great, and if you happen to have a lifestyle that lets you sail, and enjoy the fruits of your labor great!!
To be on the sea, doesnt mean we have to forgo all luxury nor find some "deep holistic" philosphy while living out here..

Dear Taru,
Thanks for your straight and honest response!!!
Please don´t get me wrong, I think that what you are doing is great. Finding a way of doing something you love and making a living out of it. I think that is just genius and one of the hardest challenges to conquer in life!!! 99% of us are doing just jobs to make ends meet, but even so, a few of us are also able to find inner peace and happiness in the “modern world.” Although, it would make it a lot easier if I was glancing at the Caribbean every day..
Keep the great work!

P.D. Yes, Republican nominations ARE boring!!
Wow look at the comments on this post! I used to be a news junkie and have dramatically cut back over the last couple of years. I LOVE politics though, so I'm backed to being hooked at least for the next couple of months. The DNC will be in my hometown next week and I'm SO excited!!!
I really like your way of bloging your content is unique full of information & also bookmark your blog for the next information.
