dear taru,
regarding your eye: it may sound strange, but let a physiotherapist or osteopath your neck. I had the same pain for years and found out that since one of my eyes was slightly worse than the other, i slightly turned my head when working on a computer or to avoid the sun. at the end it was a spot at my neck/back which hardened due to the unhealthy position.

Thanks both. Ja ska gå till en optiker imorgon och se vad de säger, tack för tips!
Hi Taru,
Get the eye sorted, don't accept the word of general practitioners, go and see a specialist eye doctor. I suffer with a condition known as Iritis and it has symptoms similar to that which you describe. Over the years I've found that very good quality sunglasses help hugely, ignore the cost and buy the best and the best I've found for sailing are Maui Jim sunglasses.
Best regards
Robert
You should try acupuncture!!! :)
I agree it could definitely be a neck thing. If you want to email me your symptoms I can better diagnose. AndiPerullo@aol.com.
So sorry about your ankle!
Thanks for answering my question haha. I definitely think missing your loved one is a good thing from time to time. Definitely reminds you how much you love and care about the person.
Enjoy your friends and family!!!
Your blog is a Beautiful light filled our home, and Absolutely lovely :)
Taru,
Like Robert, I have had bouts of Iritis. Your eye pain sounds similar to what I have experienced with Iritis.
If you are able, it couldn't hurt to see an eye specialist. The condition can be very serious.
And I agree that good sunglasses are very helpful.
Take care!
Hi Taru,
first of all I should state that I'm no health professional, (although that's a family thing here) and can only suggest that you seek advice and diagnostic from an ophthalmologist. I hope it is not a permanent physical problem as much as indisposition from recent wear or tiredness. Anyhow, it is strange that it's been going on for months now. Don't hesitate to give proper attention to it before getting back to the sea for a long time.
That said, I should say I'm photosensitive and my eyes strongly react to strong light specially when I'm tired, haven't slept or been eating well. Sun glasses most surely help (preferably with UV protection and good quality optics which are slightly reflective). I bought some discrete non intrusive rayban and that problem was quickly solved.
Also, I've experienced the exact same pain you're describing a while back, which was some kind of strain. Giving the eye a rest was all it took. Trying to work on the computer with better (ambient) lighting also helped me reduce stress as I worked for hours developing electronics and performing simulations.
If the pain does not depend much on how you move/roll your eyes and is recurrent more than constant over time it is probably just a headache (or a light migraine). About the headache, try being careful with insolation (sunstroke) and keep yourself hydrated.
But then again, I don't dare to assume anything. Try and keep constant care to yourself and your eyes but don't stop yourself from seeking a proper diagnostic. I'm sure it's nothing but don't wan't to leave out the hypothesis that it's something sea-related.
Take care and get well soon.
Still following your blog with enthusiasm.
Best to you and Alex.
post scriptum about acupuncture, physiotherapy, osteopaths and chiropractics: they can be interesting sometimes but I don't really know about this situation... Anyway, if you try it, make sure to find one of the best practitioners around. Heard it makes all the difference and you will not want to take chances here.
just to get it right. my advise to go for neck irritation should exclude an eye specialist.

Taru
I am currently in New Hampshire....heading down to Quincy to look at a new boat to me in the next day or so. Love to take Alex to look it over with me. Second set of eyes is always better....especially knowledgeable eyes. If all goes well and a deal can be struck I plan to sail home to Nova Scotia in September. Always looking for good crew.
Cheers
Scott
Thank you guys for recommendations in regards to my eye. Will let you know how it goes.
