The day of independence
Click here and here to see a few of my photos from my beautiful home country and to read the story from the last time that I flew home to Finland for a few days, earlier this year.
Hyvää itsenäisyyspäivää ! :)
allowing people beeing individuals is greatest freedom we can get...
Um sorry to disappoint you but New Zealand was actually the first country to let women vote in 1893. reference is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_suffrage_in_New_Zealand
We are also proud that we were one of the first to have a woman president - Jenny Shipley in 1997. Not to detract from Finland which we all look up to as a champion of equality. Best wishes
Crusoe in NZ
Interesting perspective on the Finns Taru. We sail a Nauticat yacht and find our dealings with your countrymen in Turku most agreeable. When we leave the UK on our lifetime voyage we plan to first visit the Baltic sea and take our Nauticat back to her homeland - and we're looking forward to that! Robert
Yes, NZ was first to allow women to vote already in 1893, Finland the first in Europe in 1906, but Finland was also, as I mentioned, the first in the world to both allow women to vote AND to have them as members of the parliament, this happened in 1907. New Zealand seems to be an interesting country in many perspectives, the few people that I had the chance to meet from there have all been very down to earth and nice and I hope we will have the opportunity to sail to your country one day.
Robert: Glad you have had good experience with Finns. Good luck for your future travels, would love to sail in the Baltic Sea one day too but it is so darn cold!
Hey! Hope all is well!
How´s it going with the herreshof 44 yacht? have you guys commenced prepping her for the the big blue yet? =)
Havent seen any updates on the project lately...
regards /Jonas
You need to come and visit down here in NZ, the land of the long white cloud. Will be happy to host the two of you and show you a bit of our country
Suomessa meni itsenäisyyspäivä tosi hyvin! Toivottavasti sielläkin! :)
